33% Less Salt, Schoolwork, And More Games

I’ve been trying the regular Maple Leaf bacon recently, instead of the 33% less salt I normally buy. I wanted to see what I was missing out on, and it turns out that it’s just the salt. The bacon does taste better (it is salt after all), but that’s about it. I’ll probably switch back to my less unhealthy bacon next time I go shopping.

I still haven’t been able to accomplish a single bit of schoolwork so far in the week. Aaron, Trolley, and Dougie were all interested in my OpenGL assignment, so I feel like I’m more inspired to work on it to show them what can be done, maybe make them proud of me. I’d definitely want to create something that they would find amazing. Almost like quantum particle observers.

I’ve been getting a boon of games lately, such as Battlefield 1942. Battlefield 1942 plays fairly well, with decent bot support, but sometimes runs at terrible speeds, even on high-end machines. The multiplayer potential is amazing though. Pat also loaned me his PS2 for the week, so I’ve been trying to get through MGS2 as fast as I can. I have to admit that hiding in cardboard boxes is the best part of the game, which is saying a lot, considering how good a game MGS2 is.

Spoiled Food, Chinese Accents, Etc.

I forgot to plug in my freezer after disconnecting it to free up a spot on the power socket on Saturday, so basically all my food has gone bad. I still have some breakfast and lunch food in the refrigerator, but that’s about it. I won’t be able to do much grocery shopping this week due to all the shit I have to get done, and the most convenient store for me to get to is closed until the fall, so I’m pretty much fucked, food-wise, for a few days.

I can’t stand what people believe are Chinese accents. Every time I hear one from a North American source, the accent can’t be further from realism. Every time a Chinese person is on the Simpson’s, or a Crank Yankers prank call from a Chinese guy, or even the fucking Chinese people speak in C&C: Generals, I get pissed off. Why don’t they just get an actual Chinese person to do the accent? The accents are not even close to what a nasty Chinese person sounds like. It’s like they have to tone down the accent so that people can recognize it (let alone understand what the person is saying), and so that it can be accepted by the general public.

Speaking of C&C: Generals, I was able to get my hands on a copy of it today, a few days before it’s due out in Canada. It looks amazing, but possibly a little too cluttered for actual gameplay purposes. I’m not sure if I’ll buy it yet. I’ll probably wait and see if my friends are interested in purchasing it for online play, and if I get addicted enough to warrant support of EA Games, although I’m sure they have enough money as a publisher of mainstream games already.

I got a compliment on my black nail polish today. I was pleased, I guess, but I suppose that it’s rare that one would make a bad comment on something like that; I think that most people, if not finding it atractive, would simply remain silent.

Somehow I got an 80% on my cryptography assignment. I imagine that the class average was around there. The questions were so difficult that the TA had to be extremely generous with the marks. Pat ended up getting 88%, which I feel is unfair, since he spent so much more time on his assignment than I did. It seems to be such a plight of university, that professors don’t realize that students’ capabilities are much lower than theirs.

Switching To Humans, Mid-Term Results, And Residual Emotions

I think I’ll be switching my race to Humans, which is quite a big decision. I’ve never been good with micromanagement, especially in Starcraft. It’s like something I wasn’t raised with, so I can’t get better at it, the way you see older people hit a limit in their two word-per-minute typing speed. In Starcraft I think I hit a limit where I just couldn’t get any better, which completely sucked, because I wasn’t that good anyway. I think that by practicing with Humans, I’ll be better at learning how to micromanage. I’ve been sucked back in by Warcraft 3. It’s hard for me to imagine juggling a top 10 rank on the ladder, and having a girlfriend at the same time.

Somehow I got 94.5% on a mid-term (even though the average was about 90%). It makes up for other mid-terms I suppose, since I believe that I failed two of them. I’ll be able to defer the marks, however, for my Networking and Communications mid-term, to my final exam. That makes my assignments worth a piddly 15%, and my final a monstrous 85% of my final mark. Yay, I guess.

Something made me sad the other day, which hasn’t happened in a while. I seem to usually keep a very level set of emotions nowadays. It’s odd, because when I started dating Christie, things seemed to look better, and when we broke up, they seemed to still look better. I’m not really sure why. It’s like Christie helped me experience things that were good, so now I have those thoughts in my head.

Good Games, Black And White, Safe, Dolly

I feel exhausted even though I got about five hours of sleep. I stayed up playing Warcraft 3 last night, and ended on a great note, cause Darren and I were able to defeat two members of clan n1, of which both members have win-loss ratios of about 90%. It ended their 26 game winning streak.

I saw something two days ago that made me wish I carried a camera on me all the time. I was taking the bus east towards home, when I saw outside, right next to a bus stop sans the shelter, two adorable blond girls who seemed to have settled down on a cement curb. They both seemed quite content there, clinging to their thin jackets against the cool six degree wind. I guessed that they were about 12 or thirteen years of age, though I wasn’t sure if they were homeless, as they were dressed in a very neutral manner. The thing that made the situation seem oddly poignant was the fact that one was holding a Chinese rice box open in one hand, with a pair of chopsticks in the other hand, while the other would point to morsels of food, and would consequently be fed by the steady hand holding the chopsticks. For some reason, it really struck a chord with me, and I wish that I had the ability to capture such a delicate moment. I could see it in black and white, not in sepia.

I’m going to watch Safe tonight, with the beautiful Julianne Moore, and her irresistable titian hair.

Dolly is becoming more comfortable with me, as she’ll sometimes crawl under my covers and nestle between my ankles. She’s even slept on me a few times. One time I woke up and found her hugging my arm. She purrs all the time; when she’s on my lap, when I’m feeding her yummy food, or even when I’m playing with her. Glad, I am, to have found such a comfortable kitty.
