Taking Care Of Chaos

Took care of Chaos over the week­end. Karen’s off in Toronto for a month, and Aaron went to vis­it Greg (who joined the reserves). Chaos is get­ting a lot big­ger, and even though he’s not quite an adult yet, he’s get­ting more and more dif­fi­cult to lift.

I’ve been think­ing about a sec­ond cat, ever since Shirley sus­pect­ed that her cats were giv­ing her chil­dren aller­gies. We were play­ing around with the idea of me adopt­ing one of them (the younger male), and she already told her kids that one of the cats may be going. Unfortunately, she found a bald spot on him, and needs to get him checked out first. If the vet vis­it goes alright, then we may do a one-month tri­al, to make sure that he gets along with both Dolly and Nala. I’m still not sure if I’m up for the com­mit­ment though. Dolly is enough of a hand­ful already, and I seem to be get­ting busier every day.

To Get Two Cats Together

I final­ly got Nala and Dolly to eat off the same plate. It took a few cans of Fancy Feast (the only wet cat food Nala will eat), and about two weeks of serv­ings in pro­gres­sive­ly clos­er prox­im­i­ty. Food seems to be only thing that will get them both to brush whiskers with­out con­flict. Even if one cat sim­ply walks by the oth­er, there’ll be a paw swipe or two. I doubt that they’ll ever com­plete­ly get along. Neither cat seems to be com­pat­i­ble with oth­er cats, even after get­ting accus­tomed to each oth­ers scents.

Fatness In Stereo

I’ve tried many times to cap­ture the actu­al size of Dolly’s cur­rent girth, but the cam­era does­n’t real­ly do a good job of it. I fig­ured that the only way to accu­rate­ly show how large she’s got­ten is with stereo­scop­ic images. That way, one can actu­al­ly tell how much Dolly is com­ing off the couch with a bit of depth per­cep­tion. It’s nev­er easy to take stereo­scop­ic pic­tures of a cat. Usually they’ll move or twitch when the alter­nat­ing pho­to is being tak­en, so it almost always has to be done while they’re asleep. Even a twitch of the cam­era strap, or a shuf­fling of feet will be enough to pique the curios­i­ty of a cat

Dolly’s head looks small in com­par­i­son to the rest of her body, but her head is actu­al­ly nor­mal for a cat her age, and it’s her pot bel­ly that’s grown out of pro­por­tion. Every time some­one comes over, I usu­al­ly get a com­ment on how much she’s grown. Outward.

Some more pic­tures of Aaron and Karen’s kit­ten, Chaos, tak­en one sun­ny Sunday morn­ing when Aaron and I met to work on a busi­ness plan. I think he was off show­er­ing before we head­ed out for bubtea, and as I sat at the table with Chaos at my feet, I noticed that the light from the win­dows made his fur glow. I had only cap­tured the kit­ty on (dig­i­tal) film once before, a few months pri­or. One can already see how his fea­tures will devel­op when he’s old­er, with the long, slen­der body, and the aloof­ness of the nose.

Chaos: An Introduction

Last week, Aaron and Karen got a nine-week old kit­ten, named Chaos. I had the plea­sure of check­ing up on him over the week­end. He was extreme­ly ner­vous about meet­ing me at first, but he even­tu­al­ly warmed up enough to play with a mousie that I once bought for Dolly. I can already start to see parts of his per­son­al­i­ty com­ing through; he’s a lit­tle shy, but real­ly enjoys human atten­tion, and can spend hours just bat­ting things around.
