This morning I put on Give Up, and for the first time I heard it without a single tinge of sadness. It felt like freedom, as if I could finally have this music to myself now. And at the same time, as much as I cherish all the memories and emotions, it’s nice to be able to say that I’m past it all now, and I can finally share this music with others.

Memories Of Korn
Holy shit, I was walking towards work this morning with the cool autumn air on my skin and the dulled sun creeping up, casting tall shadows on the grass. Something from Follow The Leader came on (I think it was Freak On A Leash) and I was back in high school again, a shy, nervous teenager, waiting for the yellow bus to Catholic school.
Home For Bubble Tea
Went home for the weekend, spent it with Darren. It was a gloomy few days; cloudy, humid, and generally uncomfortable.
At one point, Darren asked me if it felt like home, or whether my apartment here has taken the role. I couldn’t really answer him at the time. I just knew that they feel different. We lit up in a park that I used to play in while I was still in elementary school, and it felt odd to be stoned in a beautifully empty playground in the middle of Saturday, surrounded by all these upper-middle class houses with their pools and patios. Places that aren’t comfortable, but familiar.
I've Been Here Before
Ever look at a morning and think, “I’ve been here before. I was here in the summers of my youth, when the leaves were still lushly green, in the cool, dew-dropped mornings before the sun rose above the trees. I was here during the first mornings of school, walking to the bus stop through gentle suburban neighbourhoods, with their well-manicured lawns and their interlocking bricks. I was here before the Sunday rides into town, for big breakfasts and milk tea. I was here in another life, and all I’d like is to one day do it all over again.”
The Jeff Identity
Holy fuck, I just found Wizo … Kopfschuss in one of my directories. I haven’t heard this song in more than three years. It’s always in a volume of miscellaneous songs, and I must have skipped over it every time I made my punk playlist. I had totally forgotten about it, and now remember how much of a kicking fucking song it is. It brings me back to second year, being at Iain’s place, using Slackware for the first time.
It’s odd to hear a song, almost for the first time because it’s been so long, but still know all the notes as they come. It’s like The Bourne Identity where he has no idea how he knows all this random shit.
