My favourite things to capture when traveling are the little details that belie the true life of a local. One may get a general sense of a city from the weather and architecture and language, but to travel and eat and shop like they do here is the most enriching experience.
I’m so lucky to be here.
Café allongé, or a “long espresso” made with twice as much water as a regular espresso. Generally more bitter too because the extra water in the process extracts components that would generally remain undissolved, though it’s not as strong. With a bit of sugar, it’s the perfect compliment for a pastry.
“Drinking and driving is so much fun…” written across the hood. Vehicles covered in graffiti is fairly common here, something I never see in Canada.
Lamb cheese and cold cuts. Also, everything comes with fresh bread.
Apple cider from Normandy, where they also make Calvaldos apple brandy. This was the best cider I’ve ever had in my life; rich and strong and very smooth.
There are maps everywhere here, as Paris is so small that it can generally be encompassed on the side of a bus stop.
For some reason, sugar cubes are always in these little packets with an assortment of decorated wrappings.
Tapas fresh from the market.

I love food. I love trying new foods and squeal at the very idea. I don’t think I’ll ever go to France, but I can squeal anyway.
Really? Why don’t you think you’ll ever go to France? If you’re interested in food, it’s one of the best places in the world to try new things.
There’s never been interest in France. That’s not to say if I were given the opportunity to visit I’d turn it down (I wouldn’t), but… it’s exactly how I feel about NYC: no interest. *shrugs*
Do you feel like your getting richness-ed out on the food though? All that cheese and butter and bread and meat made me long for Chinese food! Although it was all good.
Re: the top photo of the cashier, he looks a bit like Tony Parker of the Spurs. :)
Wanted to also mention that your photos are great. Something about them just jumps right off the screen. Perhaps you’re simply using a nice camera.
Actually, he reminds me a lot of Russel Brand!
