It’s the dead of winter, and the wind chill is ‑45°C. People exhale in large bursts of humidity, as not even ones breathing can be kept to themselves. Any exposed skin is sore after ten seconds. Is this better than a humidex of 42°C? I haven’t decided yet.

When It's Not Winter Inside
The evening air is misty, and each street lamp casts a cone of light that reaches to the ground. The sky is washed a dirty pink, and I can barely see 50 yards past my window. All I know is that the ground is covered in ice, and I’m warm and comfortable.
Winter Prelude
The weather these last two weeks has been wet and dull, though not unpleasant. It’s just beginning to turn a stark Canadian cold. The sun is out, the pavement is salted, but the sky feels too dry for precipitation. I can smell the battery acid in the air, letting me know that snow is almost here.
When Winter Begins
The best weather of the year has finally arrived. The coolness of the autumn is in the air, along with the grey-washed skies that mark this time of year. The odious summer has left, and I can wear my turtlenecks and sweaters. Dolly can now resume her perch at my A/C free sill, and I can open up my window to let the freshness of the air inside. I miss the brilliant white winter, but still find myself wishing that this weather would last forever.
