I saw her there again. She was sitting in a corner of the coffee shop, head on the table. Last time she was still carrying her grocery bags. This time, there were no bags, no Dora The Explorer hat. Only a thin, hooded winter coat, and salt creeping up to the shins of her sweat pants.
Occasionally, she would prop her head up, as if to reorient herself to her surroundings, and her matted hair would fall about her face. She never seemed to notice. She was gone again.
But was she lost to the world, or was the world lost to her?
These photos are eerie. Hearing about a young girl like this is in itself unnerving. And your new clinical (this is a compliment) layout looks really goddamn sharp.
Hey man, I love the new layout. Did all the snow we’ve got this winter inspire you to go white? ;)
That latter photograph is rather haunting. Who is this mysterious woman? I’m genuinely intrigued and a little puzzled.
The girl looks groggy and stoned, and a bit like a “flower child” from the 1970s.
All your blog layouts are neat and elegant.
Nice new minimalism.
@number18 — To be honest, I have no idea how old this girl is, though she’s certainly not old. It’s always hard to tell with Asians. “Clinical” is a great word; even though I didn’t have this exact word in mind when I created the layout, I certainly wanted that feeling.
@trolley — Thanks! It’s life, not the snow, that’s inspired me.
@Craig Knott — Yeah, I wish I had a better picture of this person’s face, but the reflections in the glass blur it a bit, and I wanted to capture the urban nighttime setting on the right as well.
@Uncle Joe — The girl was definitely both, but she didn’t look too happy about it, as if she was coming down from a high. The way she was acting though, made me wonder if she’s crazy too.
@Pearl — Thank you.
