I just realized that years of wearing school uniforms, and the associated freedom from having to decide what to wear, has made me fashion challenged. Anything I wear is hit or miss, and I always have a hard time distinguishing between the two. There are tons of things I just can’t pull off, but not being able to actually see that actually makes such a fact important.
Part of the reason for a school uniform is to educate young persons in how to dress modestly yet attractively. This is an all but unspoken consideration these days. Accordingly:
1. Start with your school uniform. You don’t have to put it on; just hold it in your mind’s eye.
2. Replace the tie with something more to your tastes. Alternately, if wearing a tie has always made you feel as if there was a trap door under your feet, just waiting to be sprung, jettison the tie altogether.
3. Replace the shirt with a shirt of the same general cut and style-pattern, but alter the color, or choose something in a different color-pattern (e.g., if your school uniform shirt was a solid white, try a pinstripe).
4. Deal with the trousers in the reverse fashion from the shirt. Keep the color and color-pattern, but replace them with something in a contemporary cut (e.g., replace ordinary slacks with Levi’s Dockers or the Haggar equivalent).
From there on out, the world is your oyster.
All the pics I’ve seen of you have shown you to be quite the attractive, fashion-savvy guy, actually. I wish my boyfriend would dress that way. :P
Actually, I haven’t worn a uniform since high school (although growing up with nine years of ties, blazers, and polishable shoes trained me to feel comfortable wearing not-so-comfortable clothes). My post was more of about the fact that I can’t just “see” how things look the way other people seem to be able to do, so I have to be conscious about not buying something that I’ll eventually realize looks ridiculous after wearing it for six months.
