Ditto. And every weekend I promise to take a long nap too. Never happens.
I was just thinking about this exact thing this morning after two consecutive nights of going to bed at 4am and getting up at 8am.
I know how that is. “I gotta be up early tomorrow, I should go to bed early,” always turns into 12AM, 2AM, and 3AM.
Sleep eludes even if I try to get into bed early. I’ve given up.
I was like that last year. If it weren’t for the running-myself-into-the-bloody-ground workout everyday now, I’d be there too. Now I’m a happy manic until I collapse on my MacBook.
Holy crap, at least I don’t feel so alone on this. Maybe we’re all products of a Western go-go-go culture, where efficiency and productivity rule our lives, yet never satisfy them.
It used to be that I’d stay up purely for the extra hours of study and revision, quickly scrawling down whatever semi-lucid words come to mind.
Recently, however, it’s become a period where I’m completely unable to concentrate on anything constructive, yet stay up anyway. I’m prone to the “bed…in a minute” syndrome, though I’m by no means as bad as peroty.
I think the “bed…in a minute” syndrome is pretty common, and it doesn’t even have to be the result of doing anything productive. Sometimes, you just have to give in, as much as you want to fight it.
I’m a great bed… in a minuter.
My mind races with all the things I should be doing, could be doing, or should have already done. If I don’t know where my glasses are, or I’ve misplaced my phone. I need to find those and rectify them before laying to sleep.
Then there’s the “projects” I tend to be most motivated and clear thinking late into the night. So often times I’ll start or continue something at 1am. And I hate half finishing things, so often I’ll work on it late into the night. Then crash into bed for an hour or 3 of sleep before the workday.
I’m the same way; I hate half-finishing things. Or ending a night on a losing game of Warcraft 3, so I’ll play until I win. Otherwise, I won’t be able to sleep anyway. :)
