Nocturnal Living, Self-Grooming Arches, Tricky Brains

Posted in: Daily Life | Tags: ,

Living as a nocturnal being over the last week has caused me to sleep improperly. I wake up every three hours, drowsy and feeling exhausted, unable to fall back asleep again. This is the first time in my life that I haven’t really cared about my system too much. I only eat two meals a day now and go to bed between four and eight in the morning. It’s all worth it.

I’m thinking of buying Dolly a self-grooming arch because she seems to enjoy rubbing her cheeks against my stiff-needled brush. With the arch I won’t have to hold the brush against a solid surface for her, and she’ll be able to groom her whiskers whenever she wants. I set up a little perch for her at the sun room window so that she can look outside and smell the air. I made a little staircase for her using some milk crates and wicker baskets, but she hasn’t figured out how to use them to get to the highest point yet.

I watched Tricky Brains again yesterday. The only other time that I’ve seen it in my life was when I was too young to remember much about it. I do remember that I really enjoyed it though, and that it was one of the more emotional Steven Chow films. This is Chow at his best and the gags never stop coming.

There must be an entire cat worth of hair in the garbage next to my desk.

The Shedding Ritual

Posted in: Daily Life | Tags:

Over the summer, I’ve fallen into the habit of waking up (at a rather luxurious time). The first thing I do, whether I’m employed or jobless, whether I’m at school or on break, is go to my computer, turn some music on, and check my e-mail. As a result of my late risings I’ve gotten into the habit of brush Dolly in the mornings. Ever since the weather began to warm up she’s been shedding fur at a faster rate than she grows it. She wakes up with me in the mornings and jumps in front of my monitor. I’ll get a quick nuzzle and sorry stare if I’m trying to read an important e-mail. She’s unable to sit still as I brush her, and ends up pacing on my desk between stretches. I’m afraid that I’ll have to discontinue our morning ritual when I find a job, since I usually wake up with just enough time to get to school or work, and the shedding season brushing process usually ends up taking upwards of ten minutes. Perhaps extended unemployment isn’t so bad after all.

Dolly can now nuzzle my head with enough force to move it.

Exam Stress, Planned Trips, Etc.

Posted in: Daily Life | Tags: , , ,

This has been one of the most stressful weeks I’ve had in recent memory. I have to organize my trip home, my trip to the Dominican, my living arrangements, and my studying within the next day or two. I’ve decided to take the bus home, since it will be much cheaper than the train, but I haven’t decided when to go yet. I also can’t book a return ticket until I find out if John is going to his cottage or not. My living arrangements have become even more complicated. Between giving my two months notice and finding out whether Nick and I have been accepted at an apartment, I have to figure everything out by the time I leave for home.

I’ve mainly been studying for my two finals in the last few days. I’ve tried really hard at my graphics final, so hopefully I’ll be able to pass it. Otherwise, I’ll be taking a software engineering course in the summer to make up for the lost credits, which will delay my graduation a possible eight months. Geology hasn’t been going well, as I’m finding it extremely difficult to concentrate. In the end, all that matters is that I’ve tried my best.

Trolley and Wheaties have bought Canadian domains, and registered with the provider which hosts me. It will be interesting to see what the domain is finally used for, aside from their metric time system.

I will be going home soon, and Dolores will be taking up residence at Trolley’s for the week. Hopefully, she will get along with Nala by the end. I look forward to playing Magic: The Gathering at Coffee Time, meeting JG, talking with Sam, hanging out with Darren and John, blazing, and just generally relaxing.
