There are certain games and TV shows in Japan that blatantly infringe on artists copyrights (characters are named Vanilla Ice or REO Speedwagon), and they can't do anything about it because of how lax the copyright laws are there. But that means they can't release the material outside of Japan, or they'd be subject to the individual countries' copyright laws, which are undoubtedly much stricter, anywhere else.
