Yes, driving at night– some of my very best memories. Or maybe in the morning, when the sky is light/dark, and playing Dream Theatre on the radio!
Holy shit, you listen to Dream Theater?! It’s not every day you run into a DT fan. I find their songs are good for night and day driving.
p.s. Dream Theater uses the Americanized spelling of “theatre”. You must be like me: from a Commonwealth country which uses British English.
I dearly miss coming back through the tunnel in SF going toward Oakland at 3AM… I’d be taking off bits of silver jewelry all the way home, music roaring out the windows, feet thrashed and waiting to take off my tall scary dancing boots. Watching street lamps, then city tower lights flying by, then the piers, dark water seething underneath, then tunnel-tiles glinting and making patterns in a yellow neon tube where your tires sing a different hum, and then out into the dark through the struts of the Bay Bridge, first the lit part, then the darker part, and off into the maze of highway. The satisfaction of the dark.
One thing Ottawa is missing is some decent tunnel driving. If you look at music videos like Rabbit In Your Headlights, there’s something mysterious about that smooth and straight architecture, and the lack of sky above you.
I’m filled with envy.
