The Peeing Sound

Sometimes, when I pee, I shudder a little bit. Not only that, but a sound may escape me. The only way I can describe it is a soft, trembling, exclamation.

Sometimes, this happens at a public bathroom.

Sometimes, there happens to be someone standing next to me, also peeing.

Sometimes, I get funny looks.

  1. Dang it! You’ve trumped my poo blogging with pee blogging!

Oh wait, I’ve pee-blogged after eating beets. If only I could find it… I need to tag my posts more thoroughly…

  2. I’ve always thought having to stand next to anyone while peeing must be quite strange.
I don’t even like being in the same bathroom with others, even with a marginal door.

  3. my sister and i have this thing where we tell each other, “nice pee sound” if we’re within close proximity of our bathroom when the other is doing a number 1. (our toilet door isn’t soundproof.)

    yes, we’re weird.

  4. Hmm. I thought I was the only one who shook when she peed.

  5. Now that I think of it, I use to pee-shudder a lot more when I was younger. I wonder why that is.

  6. Well i’ve heard of 2 theories. One being that the shiver is a nervous system response, and the other being that the body shivers as a response to lowered body temperature from the warm liquid escaping.

Apparently it happens more in men than women but i’ve definitely experienced a shake or two in my day.

  7. @Tiana — Ha ha! My plan the entire time was to trump your poo blogging. The only way you’ll be able to top that is with some in-depth, comprehensive period blogging or something.

@Xibee — It’s about as strange as sitting next to someone and doing it. It does feel strange, however, when the bathroom isn’t very well designed, and there’s only a tiny partition separating the urinals and the door to the outside. If the timing is unfortunate, someone walking by may get a view of people doing their business inside, even if part of it is covered.

@fran — That tops anything that I’ve ever thought of myself as weird. So those are the secret things siblings do with each other?

@maeko — Isn’t it nice to know you’re not alone? What I haven’t figured out is whether I’m the only one who makes a sound.

    @loo — It’s the opposite for me; I pee-shudder more now that I’m older.

@julie — Both those theories make sense, but who knows. Maybe it’s one of those unsolved mysterious, like why yawning is contagious. Maybe it’s a form of primal social peacocking, where the males must shake their bits and the females must shake their booty to show their prowess amongst others of the same sex.

  8. Here’s my weird thing:

I sneeze when I look at bright light, but mostly when I face the sun (don’t even have to be looking at it).

  9. That’s like this guy I knew who’s eyes would water when drinking carbonated beverages. Like a shorting of the senses.

  10. I remember that first one! It was a somewhat vexing look into the world of the female functions.

And, of course, I had to look up what a DivaCup was after reading the second one.

I’ll concede you this round! But I’m sure I’ll be back when I’m 50, and something new and disgusting is happening to my body.

  11. I still have a birth to blog… hmm maybe I’ll vlog it! Just for you!

  12. I’m scared and intrigued at once. Remember to film any placenta cooking/eating!

  13. I thought I’d give it to you as a car-warming gift… What you don’t want it???
