Old Boys, And Association Day

I’m thinking about going home for a little while, since I haven’t been in quite a few months. I’ve seen John and Darren through cottage trips and visits nonetheless, but I haven’t actually talked to my parents since the beginning of the summer.

There’s an Old Boys reunion dinner happening at the College some time this month, as well as Association-Day, something I haven’t attended for seven years (Brendan Fraser was in attendance the last time I went). I don’t think I’m quite ready for a reunion yet, although I’m sure if John was there I’d be fine. The focus is on five-year, 10-year, and 15-year Old Boys though, so I’d feel awkward with the abundance of younger five-year guys and the older 10-year guys there.

It would be nice to revisit the old, familiar College grounds with John after so long. I haven’t actually been back since I first started university, when John and I got together and snuck into the newly finished rec centre. My most vivid memory would be walking along the huge fields of emerald grass with John on our lunch breaks, while my least favourite memory would probably have to be the people. If Fitzgerald were to interview me for a sequel to Old Boys, I’m sure I’d have quite a few words to say.

Catching Up With Jono, And LAN Delay

Posted in: Daily Life

I had the chance to see Jono yesterday, and after a two year hiatus we were able to catch up with each others lives. He’s lost many of the interests that we once shared, but retained many of the Jonathanesque qualities that he’s known for. The most surprising thing to find out was his marriage plan for next year, the first one of my friends to announce the “Big Day”.

As for today, the LAN party was delayed until next week, and I opted to cancel on the nursing party happening two floors below for a relaxing night in with Jack, Ginger, and Mary Jane. In the morning, major plans include doing a bit of job research for a potential client whom I met with on Friday, and finishing the second island in Myst III: Exile with Trolley.

Vicissitude

In the last month I have felt the best and worst about myself in my life.

Idiots At The Cabin

Posted in: Daily Life | Tags: ,

I went out yesterday with Trolley and Wheaties to a sort of gathering at the Cabin. We didn’t know anyone there, and just sat around while the gigantic group of friends there was insipidly superficial and obnoxious. Some idiotic drunk girl kept hitting my head with her arms and body (unintentionally) while she was talking to some guy. Trolley, Wheaties and I downed our beers (I had an EX, which was much better than anything they had on tap with it’s darker, richer flavour, but it started to taste like rust after a while) and headed off to the Dom for some pool instead. Sometimes I just can’t stand people, and yesterday was one of those times.

Myst III: Exile

Posted in: Daily Life | Tags:

Nick has lent me Myst III: Exile, and I have to admit that it’s been a fairly enjoyable experience so far. The depth of the worlds reminds me of the Thief series of games, the way the details of each reality are created so beautifully with so much emotion. It’s quite absorbing, and even though I lack the patience to take my time in certain games nowadays (games such as GTA: Vice City and Soul Calibur 2 I just finished as fast as possible), I find that it’s easy to be patient for a game such as this. The goals are unclear and the story unfolds through exploration, all allowing for a very deep gaming experience if one has and takes the time. The graphics are a bit dated, and the camera can be dizzying, but the sound is excellent and plays an important part in progressing through the game. Finally solving a puzzle is the most satisfying part, possibly more satisfying than any other puzzle game I’ve played.
